20年前罗拉（安吉丽娜•朱莉 饰）的父亲（乔恩•沃伊特 饰）挖掘古墓得到的一个箱子里收藏了一个神秘的钟。罗拉从父亲那里知道，这个钟与一个神秘组织有关。这个叫光明会的组织相信当他们找到这个古钟后，便有了把时间与空间打开的钥匙，一把三角形的金属钥匙。多年来该组织一直在苦苦寻觅。 光明会希望通过这把钥匙让他们的组织始祖复活。但首先要找到钥匙。而且时间紧迫，两天后将出现日全蚀。这个时候三角钥匙内在的力量便会达到最大。光明会不想错过这个大好机会。罗拉扛上了这个艰巨的任务，在重重困难中寻找拯救宇宙的三角钥匙。

　　本片是根据1996年发布的电脑游戏《古墓丽影》改编而成，这部系列角色动作游戏曾风靡世界，大受欢迎，有着众多的“劳拉迷”，使得游戏女主角“劳拉·克劳福特”不仅仅只是一个游戏角色，而成了一个现实生活的公众人物。精明的好莱坞片商自然不会放弃这个赚钱的好机会，筹划将其搬上银幕。对于由谁来扮演劳拉，竞争者众多，剧组甚至在网上搞了一个征求“劳拉迷”意见的活动，最终确定了曾荣获奥斯卡金像奖的安吉丽娜·朱莉扮演电影版的劳拉。可以说这部让影迷及电脑游戏迷都望眼欲穿的大制作影片从筹拍、选角、拍摄制作过程中，始终吸引着全球游戏迷的目光，也成为了2001年最受影迷期待的影片之一。
　　影片由四段动作戏组成。开场戏可称为纯属炫耀女主角的不凡身手，无甚戏剧性可言。第二场是劳拉大战盗匪，发生在一个类似大英博物馆的空旷建筑；这场以劳拉身绑橡皮筋做空翻为创意的戏，从拍摄镜头的调度讲，不乏新意，但打斗本身没什么可喝彩的地方。对场景利用最出彩的是柬埔寨吴哥窟那一场。最后一场在北极的戏根本没有利用外景的特色，设计的内景颇有看头，但打斗部分乏善可陈。劳拉的扮演者安吉丽娜·朱莉美艳中带着一股野性，她的眼神散发出不屑一顾的光芒，仿佛除了她父亲之外谁都不在她眼里。身穿紧身衣的劳拉用来当海报再合适不过了，但光靠形象难以支撑起一出戏。该片的动作片段拍得不算差，但缺乏游刃有余的潇洒。
